What are your opening hours?

We are open Monday – Friday, 7.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Is your design/quotation service free?

Yes – we can provide you with a free quotation and our design services are also free. To guarantee you’re happy with the end product, we will provide you with makeover images of your product so you can be confident you’re making the right choices. This tool is really helpful if you’re considering a new colour or configuration.

If I’m happy with the quotation, what’s the next stage?

Once you’re ready we’ll provide documents – including a contract, schedule of works and terms and conditions, as well as our 10-year insurance-backed warranty. You’ll need to check these, sign them and return them with your deposit. This secures the next stage, which is your survey.

What are your payment terms?

Our terms of business call for a 10% deposit with the order, 40% stage payment prior to manufacture, 40% prior to the day of installation with the remaining 10% payable on completion of the works. We accept cash, BACs, Switch, Visa or MasterCard for deposit and balance payments.

What are your lead times?

Lead times do vary throughout the year and largely depend on how much work is going through the factories at any time and what material you have selected. Our aim is to supply and install as close as possible to an 8-12 week lead time. However, if you need something urgently, our supply-only or Trade department can offer windows and doors in as little as 10 days product-dependent. We will discuss timings and lead times with you.

Do you manufacture windows and doors?

Our area of expertise is the installation of UPVc, aluminium, timber and composite windows and doors. Our years of experience have given us valuable insights into some of the best manufacturers in the UK, knowledge that is crucial in offering our clients peace of mind when it comes to their projects.

Building a strong relationship between businesses is essential for the success of any project and installation. By focusing solely on installation, we can stay up to date with the latest industry trends and innovations and perfect our craft. This enables us to provide our clients with the most current and high-quality products available.

I have 25-year-old double-glazed windows, what difference will new windows make?

In the UK, building regulations change every three years. Although energy rating or U-values are looked at, these regulations tend to change every six years when newer technologies allow us to make industry changes. Your current old, double-glazed windows are probably just two annealed panes bonded together with an air-filled cavity, with the frames having only three chambers or less. Newer windows tend to have more than three chambers; this helps to keep the inside of the windows warmer. This in turn reduces the risk of condensation and cold bridging. The glass now houses several different coatings and gases in the cavity (such as Argon). This will allow you to focus on a thermal, sound or security upgrade. If your property is based in the hills of Surrey and is north facing your focus will be improving the thermal qualities. Based in London you may focus on improving all three of these elements. The important thing is we can guide you through these improvements. There is no comparison between the two eras.

What happens to my old windows?

Your old windows, for the most part, are recycled. We employ companies to collect the redundant windows and doors on a weekly/monthly basis.

What is the difference between double glazing and triple glazing?

Essentially the difference between the two types of glazing is the number of panes of glass and insulating layers. Double glazing has two panes, while triple glazing has three. In each case the space between each pane of glass is minimal and is filled with air or inert gas. Most homeowners would expect double glazing in a property as standard, or would want to upgrade any single glazed units. With triple glazing having an additional pane of glass and insulating layer it is better than double glazing at achieving noise reduction, energy efficiency and security.

Can I order bespoke frames?

Yes, every window is custom made, and we offer a wide choice of frame styles, materials and colours, helping you to custom design how your home looks. Osborn Glass can advise on how different styles of windows and doors can enhance any period features of your home, and help to benefit you and your family. Traditional properties of the Victorian, Edwardian or Georgian era may suit box sash windows or Heritage casement windows, while slim frames and large expanses of glass will complement modern builds. We offer windows in aluminium, timber and UPVc in Bay & Bow, Casement, Sash and Tile & Turn styles. Our bifold, patio and residential doors are available in aluminium, timber, UPVc and composite materials.

Can I order coloured frames?

Yes – our UPVc frames can be customised with a wide variety of colour choices. As well as white, options include Rosewood, Cherrywood, Irish Oak, Black and White woodgrain finishes. If you opt for timber frames, they can be manufactured using different grades of timber, including Accoya, Sapele, European oak and European redwood.
