Five ways that bifold doors can improve your home

As the weather improves and the sun makes an appearance for longer periods of the day, you can find yourself wondering how your home can be better suited for the summer season. Balancing energy efficiency during the winter, with bright and breezy spaces in summer, can be tricky.

The solution, however, might be more straightforward than you’d expect. An external or internal bifold door can not only add value to your home, but this timeless feature also brings a whole host of other benefits that can improve your – and your family’s – quality of life.

The benefits of bifold doors in your home

But how exactly does a set of bifold doors achieve all that? The real key is being able to visualise them in your home; see how they fit in with your existing aesthetic, and provide benefits beyond the financial uplift when you come to sell your property.

To help with this, we’ve compiled a shortlist of reasons why bifold doors could be the perfect next step in your home improvement project. Whether you’re interested in uPVC bifold doors, or composite bifold doors, here’s why this purchase could be more than worthwhile.

Bring your garden inside for summer

Picture the scene: it’s the height of summer. Burgers are sizzling on the barbeque, the kids are running around in the sunshine, and you’re preparing drinks at the kitchen counter for your friends and family. But rather than feeling cut off from the outside festivities, your garden and kitchen seamlessly blend together.

This is thanks to your aluminium bifold doors, which are opened fully and allow the good vibes of the garden party to flow inside. As the evening draws on and the firepit is lit, guests can then move inside while keeping the doors open – enjoying the cooling summer nighttime breeze.

Energy benefits of bifold doors

While energy continues to be a sizable expense for homeowners, it’s important to look for ways to make your home as energy-efficient as possible. As a flipside to the previous summery scene, this means that when the temperature plummets and snow begins to fall, you need a solution that keeps the heat in.

Osborn Windows is able to supply and install triple-glazed windows as part of your bifold doors, as well as a variety of other energy-saving options to keep costs down. Maximising the energy efficiency of your home is a surefire way to improve your market value, also – it’s a win-win for your current property, and your financial future.

Bifold doors to fit your home’s aesthetic

As well as being convenient and spacious, our bifold doors are fully customisable to suit the unique aesthetic of your home. This includes both the materials that the doors are made from (such as aluminium or timber bifold doors), but also the colour of the final design.

To visualise how the doors may look within your property, you can use our intuitive bifolding door designer. Using the tool, you can customise material colour, the fixings of your bifold doors, and any other tweaks to get the perfect fit for your home.

Added security with multi-point locking

Because of their large glass surface area, there can be the misconception that bifold doors aren’t as secure as their other counterparts, such as French patio doors or standard residential doors.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. As standard, all of our bifold doors come with a plethora of security features, including:

  • Multi-point locks including dead-bolts and shoot-bolts
  • Lever handles including a key-operated 3-Star cylinder
  • Stainless steel anti-jemmy pins, fitted inside the top roller racks

If you’re looking to make your home as secure as possible, bifold doors are a great way to ensure peace of mind while letting in as much natural light as possible.

Light, light, and more light

Last but certainly not least, bifold doors are all about light. They’re the perfect option for sun-obsessed homeowners who want to bask in the rays while staying indoors, or enjoy the tranquillity of rainfall as it patters against the glass panes.

If you’d like to enjoy the sunshine but still maintain a level of privacy, then our selection of accompanying blinds are a must. Whether you’d like some shade in the summer or just want to shut down the house at night, bifold door blinds come in a variety of colours to perfectly match your frame choices. These can also be selected via our designer tool, giving you a rendered visual before you buy.

How do bifold doors work?

Despite their seemingly complex design, bifold doors are very straightforward.

In essence, the entire system works on a track that connects the rails along the top of the door, to those on the bottom. Regardless of how long your entire bifold door setup is, each hinged panel smoothly sails along the rails, folding in a concertina motion. The individual door panels fold together at either side of the bifold frame, creating as much space in between as possible.

Not only does this maximise floorspace once the doors are fully open, but it can improve the safety of navigating through the doors. This is because bifold doors can be installed flush with the floor of a room, rather than french doors, which require a raised frame (and potential tripping hazard!).

When placing an order for bespoke bifold doors, Osborn Windows can also deliver and install your doors for you – taking away the hassle and effort of tackling it yourself.
